Vine to Bottle

Here in the studio, the still life table is often bursting to capacity with drink related products. One of my favourite clients is Boutinot who are one of the leading UK based distributors of quality wines. A unique advantage for them is that they grow their own grapes and produce their own award winning wines.

Most of my work for them is to photograph their beautifully designed wine bottles in the studio. So, it was a real pleasure to be asked to visit some of Boutinot’s vineyards to creatively photograph the harvest and production of their wines for their web and marketing. This was also a great opportunity to visually explore the stunning landscape and learn about wine production.

The images to follow share my story of capturing the production from vine to bottle for this proactive company. I have since been to the Rhone several times and I plan to explore their Spanish vineyards later this year.

The marketing team at Boutinot gave me a very loose brief to allow me creative freedom to do what I do best. And, thankfully they loved everything!

Bronte Liqueur

Here is a range of photographs that were produced for marketing material for the newly launched Bronte Liqueur. The drink is a blend of blackberries and sloes, wild honey and jasmine. We spent several studio days working with both the product and select ingredients to provide my client with a library of images for their website and point of sale. We also worked on location at the Bronte Parsonage Museum at Howarth, North Yorkshire to unite the Bronte Liqueur with the essence of the Bronte’s home.

All Seasons Guest House

This week I was delighted to hear wonderful news from one of my clients, All Seasons in Filey. Their business has been voted the 2nd Best Bed & Breakfast in the world by Trip Advisor.

Check out their website to view some of the photographs that I produced for them last year. I agree that the owners attention to detail, superb accomodation and fine food can only be described as totally award winning!

Fish Merchant

During the summer months I photographed the team at Dennis Crooks of Whitby.  I was asked to creatively photograph their business allowing customers to see images of a fish merchant in action. The team meticulously prepare all fish and seafood by hand to a customers individual requirements. The photography took several visits to complete with early mornings and late evenings – all needed to capture the full atmosphere of the day in the life of a fish merchant.

Silver & Gold Jewellery

Recently, I was given the opportunity to produce creative photography of the exquisite jewellery of Samantha Birch – a talented London trained goldsmith based at Woodend Creative Workspace, Scarborough.

Lighting small objects such as jewellery is a refined skill that requires specialist equipment, but most importantly it seeks a patient steady hand to compose and create intricate and beautiful images which at the end of the day only comes with experience.

Crown Jewels

CJ-7

In 1993, I was commissioned by H.M Tower of London to creatively photograph the Crown Jewels. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, I will be giving an illustrated talk at Scarborough Art Gallery on June 7th.

I spent 12 weeks working in intensive conditions in the Tower of London after the public had left for the day. The pictures were used in a souvenir brochure published by the Historic Royal Palaces Agency to mark the move of the Coronation Regalia to a new Jewel House in the Tower in January 1994.

I will be showing some original photographs, and will talk about the behind-the-scenes secrets of the shoot – including the particular challenges of photographing the world’s largest diamond. Please call the gallery to book a place.
