Kingfisher nailed to the mast of a fishing vessel used as a charm to bring a ‘good catch’.

This week I photographed several unusual objects from the collection of Scarborough Museums Trust, all of which will be on display at Scarborough Art Gallery in 2012 as part of the Cultural Olympiad.

Pendant worn by sailors to protect against drowning.

The exhibition named ‘Fears, Foes & Faeries’ will explore many almost forgotten superstitions of local Scarborough people. The original charms, collected by ex-museum curator William James Clarke between the World Wars will be at the heart of the exhibition.

I was very pleased to be asked to help them with providing photography for the marketing of this event.
