Delicate and intricate ceramics are often difficult to photograph. These beautiful masterpieces were produced by North Yorkshire designer-maker Maggie Barnes for her marketing campaigns. Her contemporary porcelain, sculptural objects, tiles, and panels are inspired by a lifelong interest in marine life, geology, and palaeontology. Soft delicate lighting was used to highlight the subtle colours and textures.
Today we worked with Jennifer Dunn, Collections Manager at Scarborough Museums Trust. The brief was to creatively photograph ancient relics for the museum’s marketing purposes. The items are almost 11,000 years old and were first discovered in the 1940s at a Mesolithic Settlement called Star Carr in a location just outside of Scarborough. Our hometown of Scarborough has a rich history of art and culture. We recently photographed the interior of the former home of the famous artist John Atkinson Grimshaw. His paintings are evocative of Victorian times and during his life he lived and worked in a unique building which is called Castle By The Sea.
